About the Box Project

The Box Project is a sculptural, modular installation composed of reclaimed timber, found objects, and living plants. Far more than a static artwork, it is a dynamic, evolving archive—a networked organism reflecting the interplay between nature and technology, memory and future, resilience and decay.
Originally developed through stage designs at Mushroom Valley (2021–22) and Rootbound (2023–24), the structure has been refined over four years and is ready to grow beyond the festival circuit.
This modular, free-standing artwork is designed for travel. It can be packed down, transported, and reassembled—evolving each time it’s rebuilt in a new space. We propose to take The Box Project on the road through regional and remote communities, inviting local artists and community members to participate in collaborative creative workshops to rebuild it to ensure that each community brings its own distinctive voice and cultural imprint to the work. All iterations will be documented, stored, and accessed through an interactive digital archive.
A fundamental part of The Box Project is its community and collaboration focus—it is designed to grow through shared experiences, stories, and contributions.
The Box Project –– A Living Archive
The final vision for The Box Project is to create a living, growing archive that reflects the stories, materials, and cultural contributions of communities across North and Far North Queensland.
