The Red Seed Project is a collaborative intercultural art making and story-telling project for women, facilitated by cbfe-inc. As red seeds and personal objects are arranged on walls stories will be shared and recorded.
At the heart of the installation are the vibrant red seeds of the Adenanthera pavonina tree, also known as the Red Bead Tree or Sandalwood Tree. The striking contrast of the red seeds against the white walls evokes resilience and renewal. Like drops of blood, they symbolise the struggles of women and the impact of colonisation, while as seeds, they represent hope and the future.
The developed temporary art installation will provide a culturally safe space to share stories, strengthen identity, and offer the wider community an opportunity to engage with local voices, knowledge, and experiences.
The Red Seed Project will be taking place in Mossman, QLD with Kuku Yalanji Jalbu in Oct|Nov|Dec 2025.
‘This project was made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, provided through Regional Arts Australia, administered in Queensland by Flying Arts Alliance and by the Douglas Shire Council and RENEW Tropical Douglas.
